LOG LINE AND PERSONAL CONNECTION

A unique friendship is formed between a friendly tree and a very shy flower as they witness a new romance blooming between a young human couple.

I’ve always been intrigued by seeing things from unique
perspectives. When I was younger, I used to imagine that trees had thoughts and were
always watching people go by, so I thought it would be an interesting idea to have a
natural, earthy being observing a human relationship develop over the course of Summer and what that point of view would
be like. I am also very interested in the way that different types of relationships are
formed and how each one is different. Following a young, charming couple and their playful dog, the tree's unique voice and perspective will warm the hearts of all audiences.

ABOUT US

FILM MAKERS STATEMENT

“Bloom” is a short film taking place in the Summer that follows the development of a young couple’s relationship from the thoughts of an observant tree in a park. The tree has been alone for a while until he soon realizes that a new friend has bloomed next to him, a small, dainty flower, and he is very grateful for the company despite the fact that his new friend doesn’t talk much.

In a parallel structure to the relationship between the tree and the flower, a young man and woman also meet and quickly become close with the help of the man’s dog. Through their first meet cute to their first fight, the tree experiences and watches over all of it while teaching the young flower all about new words and life lessons that he has picked up over the years he’s lived in the park.

The whole film will take place from the tree’s point of view aside from the opening and closing shot that shows the tree from the parks point of view. The master shot of each scene will be a higher, wide angle shot as the audience and the tree voices his opinions on the actions of the main couple, their dog, and random passersby's who are enjoying the park during a warm, busy Summer. Along with this master shot, there will also be many medium and close up shots that will occur when the tree focuses in on something specific, like the details of the girl’s hair blowing in the breeze or the dog running after a ball. The tree is very in tune with the emotions of the couple and the events happening around him, as he pays close attention to detail. The tree is also very friendly and talkative, counteracting the flower’s silent nature.

I would like for the overall film’s mood to be very cute and light, but with a subtle bittersweet feeling of loneliness. I plan for the colors to very soft and pastel, but with a brighter green popping out in the grass or other trees around the area. I am also aiming for as soft of lighting as possible, using different forms of diffusion to achieve this.

I want to create a film that brings warmth and smiles to the audience, but still pull at the heart strings. Although the tree isn’t exactly a traditional character, I want its friendly demeanor and relationship with the flower, the dog, and the humans to pull the audience along and make them view the tree as if it were a human. I also want the man and the woman to have an intriguing parallel storyline that shows the development of a romantic relationship as it "blooms" over time.

Ultimately, the themes I am focusing on are about the relationships between people and nature and the circle of life. I have always been intrigued by the way human nature works and how everyone is constantly just living their own life, going through the motions of their daily duties and routines. Many regulars attend this park and are each experiencing a different day. The tree is slightly younger, so he is still learning about life from these humans who visit his home. I thought it would be interesting to tell a story of these natural human qualities from the point of view of something non-human, like a tree and how important it is to try and look on the bright side even when times are rough.
